Homecare, Inc. operates two Visiting Angels franchises in Washington and Oregon. Visiting Angles of Tacoma and Olympia, WA serves 250 clients in three counties around Tacoma and Olympia, and employs approximately 125 caregivers. Visiting angels of Newberg, OR serves 150 clients in a large geographic area just outside of Portland, OR, employing 80 caregivers. Rhonda Colony is the Human Resources Manager for both franchises.

With two companies’ worth of payroll and medical insurance to oversee, Rhonda had double the amount of administrative work. Each company operates on a biweekly payroll cycle, and even though the cycles are staggered, there was still payroll work to keep up with every week. In addition, onboarding and orientation for new employees took a large amount of time.

Originally Homecare, Inc. outsourced payroll and benefits to a large national payroll provider; however, over time, they began to question if it cared about their needs. The provider’s high rates of turnover meant Rhonda never knew if she would be working with the same person or if they would understand the Visiting Angels business model.
